Ladakh
Ladakh is a region of Jammu and Kashmir; India.
Ladakh lies between the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent.
It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ladakh is the highest plateau of state of Kashmir with much of it being over 3,000 m (9,800 ft).
It spans the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges and the upper Indus River valley.
The fauna of Ladakh has much in common with that of Central Asia in general and that of the Tibetan Plateau in particular. Exceptions to this are the birds, many of which migrate from the warmer parts of India to spend the summer in Ladakh.
For such an arid area, Ladakh has a great diversity of birds — a total of 225 species have been recorded.
